The Town is located on the shores of Jessie Lake which is an incredibly diverse bird sanctuary. The Town has developed parkland, walking trails, viewing towers and platforms around the Lake to help residents and visitors gain a better understanding and appreciation of the local flora and fauna. Because Bonnyville is located between two natural environments, Aspen Parkland and Boreal Forest, it is in a transition zone and incorporates species from both zones. This plus the fact that the Town is located in a number of major bird migration routes, explains the many bird species that spend all or part of the year at Jessie Lake, including some species are specific to this area. This rich natural diversity explains the Town motto, "Bonnyville, It’s Multi-Natural.
